If you’ve never experienced Reiki before, it’s completely normal to feel curious, unsure, or even a little nervous. This post is here to gently walk you through what a 45-minute Reiki session looks like, so you can arrive feeling informed, supported, and at ease.

Reiki is a subtle yet powerful form of energy healing that works with your body’s natural ability to rest, repair, and rebalance. There’s nothing you need to do, believe, or “get right.” You’re already enough.

Before We Begin: Arriving & Settling

We start by creating a calm, welcoming space. You’ll remain fully clothed and can sit or lie down—whatever feels safest and most comfortable for you. Some people like a blanket, some prefer more space. Your comfort always comes first.

We may take a few moments to breathe together or set a gentle intention. This is not about fixing anything—it’s about meeting yourself exactly where you are.

If you’re carrying anxiety, overwhelm, burnout, or emotional heaviness, you don’t need to explain or justify it. Reiki meets the nervous system without force.

The Reiki Session (About 30–35 Minutes)

During the session, I lightly place my hands on or just above the body, working intuitively with your energy system. Touch is always optional and consensual—Reiki works just as effectively without physical contact.

Many people experience:

  • A sense of deep calm or safety

  • Gentle warmth or tingling

  • Emotional release (sighing, tears, or a feeling of “letting go”)

  • Mental quiet or spaciousness

  • Or simply rest

All of these are normal. So is feeling very little. Your body receives what it needs.

From a nervous system perspective, Reiki supports a shift out of chronic stress (fight, flight, freeze) and into a rest-and-restore state. This can be especially supportive for people navigating anxiety, depression, trauma recovery, neurodivergence, or emotional fatigue.

You don’t have to relive or talk through painful experiences for healing to happen. Reiki works beneath the story.

Closing & Integration (5–10 Minutes)

We close the session slowly, allowing your system time to re-orient. If you’d like, we can share reflections—sensations, emotions, or themes that came up. Sharing is always optional.

You might leave feeling deeply relaxed, clearer, lighter, or simply more present in your body. Sometimes the effects unfold gently over the next few days as your system continues to integrate.

I may offer grounding suggestions—like hydration, rest, or gentle self-care—to help support the work we’ve done together.

Reiki & Mental Health

Reiki is not a replacement for therapy or medical care, but it can be a powerful complementary support. It offers a space where your nervous system is allowed to soften, without pressure to perform, explain, or improve.

For many people, Reiki becomes a place of:

  • Safety

  • Regulation

  • Emotional holding

  • Non-judgmental presence

Every Reiki session is different, because every person is different. A 45-minute session is long enough to go deep, while still feeling accessible and gentle—especially if you’re new to energy work or easily overstimulated.

You are welcome exactly as you are. Tired, hopeful, skeptical, tender, curious—it all belongs.

With love and blessings

Esther xxx
